Hi I’m KG the Techie –
Hey folks, when I read the article that Microsoft is set to buy Skype, I said yep.. it’s time for another blog moment. As you know, over the years when big tech companies buys a small companies trade mark applications, it’s usually for; one they see more profit.. or two, they can’t compete against the software so the buy it; The old saying “if you can’t beat them, then join them” method. I mean come on, let's face it; what is Microsoft going to do with Skype? Can you say not make if free anymore? Yes say it… you know it…
It would be interesting to know why Microsoft wanted to buy Skype, maybe Skype wanted to sale the software anyway. Let's wait and see what will be of Skype, will it be the same, or will things change. That’s my 2 cents.

I use Skype, and because I utilize it's other functionalities, it's not free for me anyway. I'd hope that if Microsoft bought them, they'll bring something to the table that makes the software better (e.g. making it so that the call quality is consistently good on both ends of the call, regardless of the speed of the other person's connection).
ReplyDeleteI certainly think Microsoft wants Skype because in this case it's going to be easier to not reinvent the wheel, but it will be curious to see what they do with it.
This would now turn my attention to whomever is Skype's biggest competitor, because they might be working on something really good that's going to provide their users with more value in anticipation for Microsoft's takeover.
I guess we'll see shortly! :)
Amazing.. well I guess in my defense to that.. I was strictly coming from a open-source kind of freedom, not so free, in a monetary sense. Yes indeed, Skype has many paid subscribers for more of the software use. When Microsoft takes it, and utilize the software. They might not want it to be a open-source project anymore, meaning won't be used across different platforms.. However I appreciate your comments.. because it did give me a different way of looking at the whole spectrum. Thank you so much.. I'm still sort of new at this blog thingy.. lol
ReplyDeleteKG i hope Microsoft doesn't ruin my talks with my brother in Germany. I just figured out how skype words and got him on it. We talk for hours for free and that's the only way I see my nephews. BTW hows that baby, she should be bout 5 of 6 now eh.
