PC-Linux OS aka Phoenix - impressive -

Hi I’m KG the Techie –

Hello again folks, wow… how time flies, as they say, when you are having fun. Well for me time just flies. Hey… well, let me tell you, finally I changed Linux Distros, no longer using Fedora 15. However, I’m currently using “PC-Linux OS aka – Phoenix” – and wow, what a different in style, performance, and just the overall feel of the OS. First off, let me share with you the desktop environment itself. It’s not “GNOME” that's for sure. In fact to me, it is a-lot better than GNOME 3. XFCE 4 is the desktop environment starter point for “PC-Linux OS”, it feel s like “KDE” environment. I like the style of it, and it’s performance is outstanding, under a “ 1 GB” of ram system. This system I’m running “PC-Linux OS” on is a old, with a 40GB HDD, and 1 GB Ram, the performance is medium but does the trick of running Linux Distros of choosing. I loaded all the software I like to use under this OS, however you will have to know which package manager to use, especially if you going to use the command line interface for it. It does have the Synaptic Package Manager frontend installed for your software installs and downloads, if you don’t like the CLI approach. How can you not like CLI, if in you in the world of UNIX and Linux. Well… this concludes this blog moment for now, always remember, it’s just my 2 cents.

  1. KG I double upped my Vista with Ubuntu for about 2 weeks and got ahead of myself changing some of the settings and had to uninstall it. I'll be getting an old HP with a GB of ram and about 140GBhd that has XP right now, would it be a good idea to double up on that. Just to play around with.

  2. hey Sefu..

Well for me, as a starter. Ubuntu Linux would be the area of choice. because it's cater to new linux users.. PC-Linux OS is for those of us, that have a few more experience with different OSes. Basically I'm trying out different ones, Just to have some good combinations of experiences between the different ones. plus I have old dedicated machine to use, for this project, and then I'm going to share my cents on them in my blog here.

But unless you have had some other experience with other Linux Oses, I would keep trying Ubuntu for my first experience. :) Hey Sefu,, great to here from ya man. I'm always thinking Tech. just remember it's just my 2 cents. :)
