"Cadillac Reaches for the Stars with Astronomical $975,000 Celestiq" #AutoWorld #AutoCar #CarTalk

So I asked Why would someone would want to buy a Cadillac for $975K - here is one response:

The announcement that General Motors will start selling a new ultra-luxury 2023 Cadillac Celestiq at a price tag of $975,000 has certainly raised eyebrows in the automotive world. This astonishing six-figure price for a Cadillac seems unbelievable and has many people wondering - what is GM thinking pricing a Cadillac this high and who on earth would pay almost $1 million for a Cadillac?

At nearly a million dollars, this new Cadillac Celestiq will be hand-built and billed as an exclusive, bespoke luxury vehicle featuring cutting-edge design and technology. Only a couple hundred are expected to be made annually. GM defends the insane price tag by positioning the Celestiq as a halo car meant to showcase Cadillac's craftsmanship and advancements.

But even for a premium coupe with customization options, a $975,000 price point seems outrageously lofty for a Cadillac badge, which has never been known for ultra-luxury cachet like Rolls-Royce or Bentley. It begs the question - why pay 4-5 times more for a Cadillac over a Mercedes S-Class or Lexus LS when the brand doesn't command that prestige?

The vehicle must provide extremely advanced engineering and detailing to justify this pricing. It seems aimed at the super-rich rather than real Cadillac devotees. And it's questionable if building an unattainable ultra-luxury Cadillac enhances the brand's core identity.

For regular luxury buyers, a vehicle close to a million dollars is tough to rationalize no matter the features. The Cadillac name may simply not hold enough prestige and gravitas to demand that kind of price yet. It appears to be an overreach that strains credibility, leaving people scratching their heads wondering what GM could be thinking with this approach.
